California Introduces New Rent Control Laws

Starting in January of 2020, the rent control laws in California were significantly changed.

Many individuals who inherit real estate and plan to use it as investment property should be aware of these changes before signing a lease agreement and letting tenants in.

The California Lawyer’s Association published a great article summarizing the changes in rent control rules, including rent caps, the exemptions from rent caps, the “just cause eviction” rules, and the new disclosure requirements. Read the full article here.

If you are, or plan to be a Landlord, it is important to consult with a real estate attorney to ensure you are not open to any liability. Call your real estate professional, or reach out to us for a referral.
